USA Equestrian Trust opens 2016 grants program for equine non-profits
Applications due Monday, May 2
March 15, 2016 — Lexington, KY — USA Equestrian Trust is pleased to announce it is now accepting proposals from IRS-registered equine non-profit organizations for its 2016 grants program.
To submit an application, visit trusthorses.org and complete the online form. Any organization applying must submit copies of its IRS non-profit determination letter and most recent Form 990, as well as a proposed budget for its project. The deadline to submit applications for the foundation’s 2016 grants program is 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on Monday, May 2.
The Trust’s financial support has been dedicated largely but not exclusively for initiatives that are productive across several national-level discipline and/or breed boundaries. The Trust welcomes applications for need-based projects and encourages applicants to detail those in their applications. Among the past recipients of Trust funding are:
AMERICAN MORGAN HORSE EDUCATIONAL CHARITABLE TRUST: $12,000 was awarded in 2014 to launch a series of educational videos and podcasts, which can be viewed at youtube.com/AMHAYAA. “The American Morgan Horse Educational Charitable Trust and the American Morgan Horse Association Young Adult Alliance are extremely grateful for the support of the Trust,” said Executive Director Julie Broadway. “The response has been amazing with over 25,000 views. Outreach through content in this format and medium is really engaging people of all ages and interests.”
KENTUCKY HORSE PARK FOUNDATION: $50,000 was awarded in 2015 to fund a series of barn renovations at the Kentucky Horse Park. “The park has 21 original stabling barns — some over 30 years old — in varying need of renovation. Some need to be razed and rebuilt from the ground up, while others need less intensive work,” said Kentucky Horse Park Foundation Executive Director Laura Klumb. “The Trust’s lead grant helped launch the campaign for this important effort and provided the critical funding needed to renovate our first barn, which will serve as a show piece for the entire project.”
UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-LINCOLN: $29,100 was awarded in 2013 to create online educational materials for eXtension HorseQuest and My Horse University. The six new mini-courses and webcasts, which can be accessed by clicking here, include such topics as pasture associated laminitis, equine herpesvirus 1 and dealing with sales fraud in the industry. “Over 2,000 individuals have taken the courses, and there have been over 5,000 views of the accompanying webinars,” said Dr. Kathy Anderson, extension horse specialist at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. “This equine educational program, made possible by the USA Equestrian Trust grant, is enabling horse owners to make more informed decisions, as well as adapting new horse care management practices to ensure healthier, sounder horses for long-term use.”
Funding available for USA Equestrian Trust grants includes $41,500 reserved for Hunter and Jumper non-profit programs and activities in California and Nevada. Applicants for this fund should make clear their intention to apply for grants available from this specific reserve.
