USA Equestrian Trust opens 2023 grants program for equine non-profits
Applications due Tuesday, March 28
February 12, 2023 — Lexington, KY — USA Equestrian Trust® is pleased to announce it is now accepting proposals from IRS-registered equine non-profit organizations for its 2023 grants program. Since the inception of the program, the Trust has awarded nearly $2.5 million in grants.
To submit an application, visit trusthorses.org and complete the online form. Any organization applying must submit copies of its IRS non-profit determination letter and most recent Form 990, as well as a proposed budget for its project. The deadline to submit applications for the foundation's 2023 grants program is 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on Tuesday, March 28.
The Trust’s financial support has been dedicated largely but not exclusively for initiatives that are productive across several national-level discipline and/or breed boundaries. The Trust welcomes applications for need-based projects and encourages applicants to detail those in their applications.
Among the equine non-profits granted funding during 2022 was the Kentucky Horse Council, which was awarded $2,500 to support a series of educational events, as well as livestock investigation training focused on recognizing, reporting, and handling animal neglect and abuse cases.
“USA Equestrian Trust’s grant funding allowed us to continue to offer this valuable programming, which the Kentucky equine community has come to rely on,” said Executive Director Sarah Coleman.
Among other USA Equestrian Trust grant recipients in 2022 was the American Morgan Horse Educational Charitable Trust, which used its $4,500 grant to fund a study of Morgan horse genetics.
“This genetic testing is vital to our Registry's monitoring of the gene mutation,” said Executive Director Carrie Mortensen. “As a smaller non-profit, projects such as this are often bypassed due to lack of funding, and USA Equestrian Trust’s grant made it possible to do our part in the preservation and perpetuation of the Morgan horse."
USA Equestrian Trust’s 2022 grants also included $3,800 in funding for the Native Horsemanship Youth Program’s horsemanship classes.
“The Native Horsemanship Youth Program is now celebrating 25 years of service to Port Madison Indian Reservation (Suquamish Tribe), Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe and surrounding communities,” said Treasurer Lynne Ferguson. “Our most recent summer and fall program was made possible through a generous grant from USA Equestrian Trust.”
